What is Lexington Poetry Month?

Lexington Poetry Month was created by Hap Houlihan (formerly of the Morris book shop) and Katerina Stoykova-Klemer of Accents Publishing to get Lexington, Kentucky writing and sharing poetry for the entire month of June.

LPM Official ProclamationIn 2013, Mayor Jim Gray proclaimed (in verse!) that June was, is, and forever shall be Lexington Poetry Month.

Accents Publishing runs the LexPoMo Writing Challenge which allows anyone who registers before June 1st to submit up to one poem a day throughout the month of June. If you submit at least five poems throughout the month, then you are guaranteed to have one of your poems chosen for publication in a future anthology from Accents Publishing.

Is LexPoMo Only for Accents Publishing?

Absolutely not! In fact, there have been events at the Morris book shop, sQecial Media, the Lexington Public Library, The Carnegie Center, and more!

Hap and Katerina created LexPoMo as a celebration for Lexington by Lexington. Everyone is encouraged to create an event, host it wherever you can, and we’ll happily mention it on our blog and add it to our event calendar!
